The witnesses in the online archive come from nearly all countries in Europe. They were used or detained in many cities and villages in Germany and the occupied territories. The biographical information of interviewees can be researched using the following map: Place of birth, place of deportation, camp, companies and places of detention, place of residence after 1945.
This interactive map allows for precise searches for reports of forced labor within a single city, and gives an overview of the persecution of witnesses from certain areas of origin. Based on a current Google Map, the map application also demonstrates the broad geographical scope of the interview collection.
Camps, places of work and detention centers during the Nazi era are marked in red, place of birth, place of deportation and of residence after 1945 are marked in blue, while places mentioned only briefly by the interviewees are marked in green.
By double-clicking or deselecting, you can either narrow or expand the selection of interview sites. Users registered in the online archive can jump directly from the map selection to the relevant interview.
