The French Paul Ch. was committed to perform forced labor in Germany in 1943 within the framework of the Service du Travail obligatoire (STO). Forced labor in a munitions depot, as a forest worker, in a cardboard factory and an aircraft plant.

  • Born 1922 in Vienne, France
  • He and his family worked in a textile factory
  • July 1942 until February 1943: forest worker within the framework of the "chantiers de jeunesse"
  • In March 1943 forced labor in Bunzlau in Lower Silesia (today Bolesławiec, Poland)
  • Forced labor in a munitions depot, as a forest worker, in a cardboard factory and an aircraft plant
  • Detained in barrack camps or in foreigners’ apartments in the city
  • February 1945: The company relocates to Zeitz
  • April 1945: Liberated by the Americans
  • After his return, he continues working in the textile factory.
  • In 1947 he sets up his own textile company which he manages until its closing in 1987
  • In his retirement he builds up a textile museum established in 1995 in Vienne and writes his memoirs.
